The rise and fall of the sourdough empire

I was anthropomorphizing the yeast in my sourdough culture, and saw from the yeasts’ perspective that they have a stunning civilization.

They live in peace with the lactobacillus and their main export, alcohol, is eagerly desired by humans, who feed them sugar and flour.

They really have come a long way in a short time. Not long ago they were just a couple wild yeasts trying to figure out how to bud. Now look where they are! Their mighty civilization fills the stainless steel bowl, and they are still expanding upward and outward.

It got rough around five o’clock, but it’s pretty cool that so many people want to join the effort to colonize the glass mixing bowl.

You can only imagine the horror when they discover that the new colony is going to be baked into fresh pizza in exactly 45 minutes.

I predict a violent military coup at a minimum. Probably major religious upheaval as well.

And then I’ll stir in some water and flour, and before long the new rulers will be all “Yee-ha! Let’s go colonize that bread pan!”

They never will learn. You can’t teach a yeast.”,public,0,,
