Theseus and the Minotaur

I can’t help but think that we have the Minotaur all wrong.

It was imprisoned in the labyrinth, and only got company every seven years. Why would it kill them? It must have been so lonely and eager for friendship that it would have gone out of its way to make the Athenians feel welcome and to convince them to stay rather than risk dying alone in the maze.

Then that bastard Theseus goes and kills it. I hope the Euminides hounded him to the ends of the earth for that one.
