Several months ago one of the pastors at our church lamented, “It’s always the same group of people volunteering.”
This is what we call, in our fancy church language, a lie. Outside the church, it is what people more prosaically call bullshit.
A church has the right to limit its leadership positions to the people whom the church elders choose, according to the requirements it sets, both biblical and extrabiblical.
But qualifications and disqualifications should be made clear; and if the usual suspects of volunteers are feeling worn down by a lack of support, church leadership should own up as to why there is nobody else there to help carry the load, instead of attributing it to an apathetic congregation.
